I was over at my sensei's website today and I noticed that Chikuzen has listed quite a few flutes for sale. I have played through most of these and bought one of the Senryu flutes in a 1.8 he had. These are great flutes and there are some great deals there to be had if you are looking for a great 1.8 to grow with.
Today I made a drive down to Melbourne FL to see my buddy Jon
Kypros and play some
shakuhachi. While there he played my
Senryu 1.8 made by Justin quite a bit. He recorded two
songs on it while I was there. One is
Yamato Choshi and the other is
Tamuke. If you listen to the end of
Yamato Choshi you can find out what he thought of the flute.
What a great day of playing!

I sent my Senryu 1.8 shakuhachi back to Justin just before Christmas to have him fix a small chip I accidentally put in the utaguchi and also put a preventative binding on the flute to prevent a very small crack from running on the flute. I just got it back and not only was Justin quick but his repair is perfect. It looks great and he was able to get the binding to match the joint perfect. He did an amazing job making this flute to begin with and his repair was no less perfect. I am so glad the flute is back!

Sorry I haven't been posting often in the last week. I've been kind of busy. I am helping Chikuzen get the scores ready for the new level 3 Okuden book right now and playing. I have had to get ready for some harmonica teaching seminars coming up so I have had to play a little more harp in the last week then flute, but I am back at it full time again :o)

Jon and I had a good time over the week but with other recording that was getting done and Jon's arm being a little sore we didn't get to get a good video to post. Got to play a bit and get a good lesson with Chikuzen but no video. Sorry if you checked back for it. Been working on the song Shingetsu this week. It is a fun beautiful song with some great challenges.

Today Shakuhachi Jon will be coming to stay for a week. For those of you who don't know, Jon is one of my best friends. He is also an amazing shakuhachi player. He is the maker of some of my best jinashi flutes including the Colonel a 2.1 which plays as nice as any jiari I have had. I look forward to a great week of playing!
