I just got a heads up from Ronnis Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin about a good essay on Jin Nyodo over at Japan Shakuhachi

Yesterday while skating with my son, my wife took a little video and we put it to some music.  I have recently gotten back into skateboarding at my sons request.  Here is a short video:

I have been working on getting a better Muraiki this week and Chikuzen had some great tips for me on this topic.  The way he had described it to me to make my technique better was to keep the cheeks pulled in and raise the back of the tongue up so that the air was channeled down the center of the mouth in a powerful stream that makes the air almost sound like a whistle when leaving the embouchure but not quite.  If the note jumps to kan then back off on the pressure just slightly.  This worked well for me.  Your mileage may vary.
I have been working on cleaning up the scores and organizing them for Chikuzen's Shoden Level (beginner) book. It has been a lot of fun working with these scores and I am looking forward to doing the Chuden Level book this week also.

Shingetsu Flutes has been putting up a new tips section.  If you are looking for something shakuhachi to check out you should stop by his site.
